Desiccation is the state of extreme dryness, or the process of extreme drying. As climate change is proceeding all over the Arab world, with temperatures of 50 degrees Celsius and the humidity boiling off the earth and bodies, millions of Arabs will fall desiccated to the dry sand and hope for the rain to be revived. Cixian Liu describes the process in The Three Body Problem. As always, science fiction pretends to be talking about an imaginary, faraway planet, when in reality it is a metaphor of here and now.
An incidental consequence of the organism’s evolutionary adaptation to dehydration, a common physiological stress in nature, is radiation resistance. Cixian Liu does not spell it out, but the Trisolarians are immune to radiation. Trisol-Arabs will also able to endure severe electromagnetic shock created by nuclear wars of the future.
