The rise of the English

I am reading about the formation of the world's first stock company of London merchants that eventually took over India. Their advantage in the existing world commerce was solid union, they had faith in each other, could work at large distances and long term, could work with large capital. Except for the Dutch, no one could compete.

Mosaic rises 9%, ICL rises 5% in NASDAQ. ICL was falling for weeks but I estimated that the market is wrong, and see, my opinion on ICL is being fulfilled.

Fear in Stockton

I remember Stockton as a nice town in the Central Valley of California. That was 1969. Now fear and insecurity reign. A food truck owner panicked and drew his 38" gun and shot the uniformed firefighter captain. The killer is an elderly mulatto and the captain was a Latino. Not young gangsters on drugs. Insecurity itself kills.

All eyes on the NASDAQ

Left, the TASE 35 index today. Opens 1030 AM and after a few operations, it stops breathless, watching what the leader, the NASDAQ will do. At about 16 here that is 0900 AM in New York, the Yanquis wake up and their machines start trading. After a couple of minutes, Tel Aviv feels the winds coming from the East Coast and starts trading again. We are followers.

Find me !

I received a ticket to America with a three-month Greyhound bus ticket rewarding my surprisingly good university diploma. I traveled all over America and Canada and managed to be present at events. For example, I sat in the United Nations when the Israeli representative described the shameful genealogy of the Saudi Royal family. I was in Congress watching how democracy worked. I was at hippy demonstrations at Berkeley. I was at the rainy Woodstock rock festival. I must be somewhere in the pic. I met boys in Canada escaping the draft. I was almost recruited by the Army kiosk at Times Square. I did not like America and returned to Argentina.

Fatal advice

 by  Alex Tabarrok in

In Organic Disaster I wrote:

Sri Lanka’s President abruptly banned chemical fertilizers earlier this year in a bid to become 100% organic. The ban has resulted in reduced production and soaring prices that, together with declining tourism and the pandemic, have created an economic crisis.

Here is the latest update:

Sri Lanka has announced compensation for more than a million rice farmers whose crops failed under a botched scheme to establish the world’s first 100-percent organic farming nation.

…The government will pay 40,000 million rupees ($200m) to farmers whose harvests were affected by the chemical fertiliser ban, agriculture minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage said on Tuesday.

“We are providing compensation to rice farmers whose crops were destroyed,” he told reporters. “We will also compensate those whose yields suffered without proper fertiliser.”

The government will spend another $149m on a price subsidy for rice farmers, he added.

About a third of Sri Lanka’s agricultural land was left dormant last year because of the import ban.

A good example of central planning in action.

Me: And of the fatal advice of the FAO and the World Bank and foreign woke agricultural experts.

Russia rebuiding

Ukrainian troops, armed by Western Europe (left), are preparing for a Russian invasion. Russia is intent on rebuilding the Soviet Union. They moved blood supplies near the border.

Empathy

This intelligent, sensitive, and unlucky Jewish girl I had been following on Twitter writes: My hope is that investigative journalists will discover that I am fake and free from my suffering. The wind turned her umbrella and her shoulder jumped out of its joint. She writes that she is under painkillers including narcotics. I would love to help and write something encouraging but have no words. She is blocking me too.
